आजकल बच्चों में कैंसर काफी तेजी से बढ़ रही है. बच्चों को होने वाले कैंसर बड़े लोगों से काफी अलग होते हैं. ऐसा इसलिए भी कहा जाता है क्योंकि बड़ों के मुकाबले बच्चे को वह सबकुछ नहीं झेलना पड़ता है जो बड़े झेलते हैं. बड़ों में कैंसर होने के कई कारण हो सकते हैं जैसे- लाइफस्टाइल, धूम्रपान, शराब. तनाव आदि. वहीं बच्चों में ऐसा कुछ कारण नहीं होता है न हो शराब पीते हैं और न धूम्रपान करते हैं. जिन बच्चों में डाउन सिंड्रोम की दिक्कत होती है उन्हें भी कैंसर होने का डर अधिक रहता है. अगर किसी बच्चे की लाइफस्टाइल और खानपान ठीक नहीं है और बार-बार पिज्जा, बर्गर, चाउमिन औऱ फ्रेंच फ्राइज खाते हैं तो उन्हें कैंसर जैसी बीमारी का जोखिम बढ़ता है.
